Welcome to Training Wheel Wine!

Where seasoned wine sippers and those who still have their “training wheels” on, come to learn.

Welcome to Training Wheel Wine! My name is Emily Twery, and Training Wheel Wine is my passion project. I’m sure the first thing you’re asking yourself is, “why the name?”. The name ‘Training Wheel Wine’ comes from when I spent a summer as a sommelier in the lovely Finger Lakes region of New York. A much more seasoned sommelier than myself commented on some of the wines at the time that leaned a tad bit towards the sweet side. He noted that these wines were referred to in the industry as “Training Wheel Wine”. As someone who is a huge proponent of sweet wines, I’ve loved this reference ever since–hence the name of my blog.

The training wheel concept embodies my introductory step into wine-tasting. Although I’ve expanded my palate since, I still enjoy a refreshing sangria and wine slushie from time to time (who doesn’t?!).

I’ve decided to start this blog to document for myself and others, my first and long-lasting impressions after sipping different wines. It will also serve as a resource to learn about wine for full-fledged beginners like myself. But I’ll need your help! Please comment, connect, and tell me what you’d like to see here on the blog.

Thanks for following along! Let’s learn about wine together 🙂
